Nolen gurer Rosh bora for Rakhi and Janmashtami

1:44 PM

From last year and so I have been making a conscious effort to know more about the food that we consume regularly. Not only it's nutritional and food values but also the history behind it, it's origination and evolving process to the current time. For me its more about going back to my roots, to know who I am, where I belong. When I write about my family recipes I try to dig deep, to find out how it was if I stretch back in time generations after generations, what was the story behind it, where it all started and made this incredible journey till date.

I believe every one has such stories in their family that speak volume about their back ground, which has so much to do to who they are today. There is nothing better than being proud of your own background and your own tradition. That is the very reason I started blogging and still love doing it.

Celebrating Swiss National Day with Swiss Food Festival at Swissotel Neotia Vista

12:45 PM

Two things come to everyone's mind when they hear the word 'Swiss'...swiss chocolate and Swiss cheese. and our recent dinner at Swissotel had both of these in plenty.
Yes, again. A few days back we again had the pleasure of attending an exclusive gourmet dinner at Swissotel Kolkata. This time to celebrate the Swiss National day and to mark the week long Swiss food festival. For me going back to Swissotel is like a promise of good time. The beautifully designed hotel with its consistent good food and warm hospitality always gives you a satisfying experience.

It was an buffet dinner, hosted at Cafe Swiss, the very contemporary, 24 hour Cafe located at the 6th floor of the hotel. With its indoor and outdoor sitting and vast windows it exudes a relaxed charm. Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by the ever gracious Enakshi and her team.

My 5 year old son has severe digestion issues and food allergies. This is one reason that I mostly cook from scratch without relying on the store bought spices and sauces. I was reading the other day about how preservatives and chemicals can disturb the acid-alkaline balance of our body. I was quite unaware of this issue but this probably could be one of the reasons behind our failing health all over the world. the more we eat out, have processed food, order take outs the more our body's balance is hampered with more and more toxin deposits. Add to that the sedentary lifestyle.

But having said that, more or less it is a part of today's fast pace of life. All we can do is to try to minimize such effects on out bodies. Below are such findings which will help you minimize the deposit of toxins and will maintain a healthy acid-alkaline balance your body.

Who am I? No. Not a question for you to answer rather this seems to be something am asking myself again and again. You can say am on a journey to discover myself, to look into my own eyes, peep into my inner self and find out the truth. Its a quest that's been haunting me and am longing for an answer.

Do you remember the story of Moses? The Egyptian prince who later became the most important prophet of Judaism. According to the Hebrew Bible God chose and sent him to Egypt to release Israelites from slavery. He led the exodus of the Israelites out of Egypt and across the Red sea in search of the promised land. They suffered many difficulties in this log journey but God guided them through out. During their travel in the dessert when they did not find any food God gave them 'Manna' a fine flake like substance that appeared on the ground in night with dew. It tasted like wafers made with honey and was to be collected before the sun Came up. Moses instructed them not to store Manna more than they need for each day. Some did not listen to his advice and wanted to store it, in anticipation of no food in future.  But 'Leftovers of manna stored up for the following day "bred worms and stank"...
